Happy Capricorn Season! The Sun moves into Capricorn at 7:27 pm PST. Capricorn is a cardinal sign meaning it marks the beginning of the season winter. The days are getting colder, and the nights are coming earlier. We are wearing warmer clothes, spending time with family and friends and preparing for the big ending of the year. People are preparing for the holidays-Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Yule and Christmas (and all the ones I didn’t mention). For some people this time of year is hard, we miss our deceased loved ones or have bitter memories of spending holidays with our bio families.
Capricorn represents what is pragmatic, goal or mission oriented, and traditional. Capricorn is interested in strategy, ethics, discipline, and loyalty. The shadow side of Capricorn is being self-deprecating, pessimistic, too restrictive, status obsessed, prone to depression and loneliness.
What is a good way to channel Capricorn energy? Spending time doing mutual aid or volunteering, intentionally spending time alone as a practice of self-care or dedicating yourself to a practice like prayer everyday for 5 minutes or whatever floats your boat.
I pulled the Page of Stakes or Wands as insight for navigating Capricorn season. On this card is Vampire Harmony. Originally, Harmony was an egotistical, self-obsessed, and materialistic popular girl from Sunnydale High School. Although, vapid she was innocent and naïve illustrated by her love of unicorns and pink. Her journey mirrors Buffy’s representing the loss of innocence and the conflict between good and evil. The loss of naivety is especially relevant to us today. For many people witnessing the Palestinian genocide by the US and Israel this is the first time they have questioned their government. Capricorn is about what we are responsible for and what we are wise to. This season you might find yourself being pushed to adult even harder than before. Although the price for wisdom is steep it is ultimately a gift that lasts our entire lives.
