Philosophy

This world is intersectional, we are intersectional

I deeply respect that all folx come from different walks of life and philosophies. We all struggle ascending to our best selves amidst living in an oppressive, capitalist, cis-sexist, anti-Black, anti-Indigenous, ableist, patriarchal world. In awareness of these intersections I commit myself to using gender neutral language, respecting all ethnicities, countries of origin, religions, sexual orientations/lack of, genders/no genders, disabilities and respecting all forms of work (yayy sex workers or folx making money in non-normative ways). I challenge myself to learn about and engage with different lived experiences other than my own. I dissect my biases and don’t allow them to overpower my heart. I participate in my communities and try to make the world more inhabitable for us all. I am an anarchist and agender Black Puerto Rican person (they/them pronouns).  I am not here to convert or convince others to think like me. I am here to empower you (you are your truest healer).

I have been following the online and real world astrology/spirituality/wu communities for many years. It is dominated by cis people, often white, who unfortunately, are often transphobic, anti-Black, anti-Indigenous, racist, deeply invested in capitalism and other forms of violence. It is necessary for there to be varied representation in all facets of healing, art, political resistance, etc. Further, diversity should not just be visible, it should be supported and protected.

In order to liberate Earth we must liberate ourselves from these insidious systems of oppression. This society teaches us shame in order to dominate us. It teaches us to be ashamed of our skin color, our size, our ability, etc. Shame has no place in a free and equitable world. My witchcraft, astrology and tarot are rooted in freedom from shame and cultivation of compassion. I cannot divorce my politics from my practice. The personal is political. Occult is political. If you don’t already align with this or aren’t open to absorbing ideas counter to your own, I am not for you. I kindly ask you to respect my small corner of the internet and I will respect you.

 Free Will vs. Determinism

Many modern philosophers in academia have asserted preference for compatibilism which is a philosophy that combines free will/agency with the belief that our lives/actions/fundamental characteristics are determined or fated. I interpret this as many aspects of existence are predetermined, we inherit karma from our past lives, from our ancestral line, however, we also have the agency and volition to choose what we do with our karma. I adhere to compatibilism. Chronologically, what happens first? Your birth into this life or the actions you make once you discover your agency?

You are born first. You cannot control your genetics, the country you are born into, ethnicity, ability, your parents, socioeconomic class, oppression, etc. But you can make CHOICES. And even if you think your sphere of influence is small, these choices can influence you and the world significantly. Astrology helps us understand the hand we were given while also showing us possible choices we can make. Astrology is a powerful tool that can interpret your life and color in specific possibilities of the infinite possibilities that exist for you.

Honesty, Integrity, Compassion

I am deeply, painfully honest with myself so I can bring that honesty in places I share with you. Every day I choose to live with integrity. Living with integrity means being an agent of loving kindness, striving to create more positive impact than harm, being accountable for my actions and making amends for my mistakes. I move through this world led by my heart. I believe compassion is a form of liberation that ideally frees us from self-imposed prisons and suffering. Much of my life philosophy is influenced by Tibetan Buddhism (but I have no cultural link to it).
