Hi, my name is Iris (they/them/theirs)!

I am a Libra Rising , Capricorn Sun, first decan Gemini Moon.

I am an Afro-Taíno Puerto Rican person who comes from lineages of psychic mediums, Santería practitioners, witches, and tarot readers. I am a queer, agender, disabled, anarchist, abolitionist, espiritista, witch/brujx, psychic medium, energy healer, astrologer, tarot reader, poet, and artist. I live in so-called Portland, OR, the unceded and ancestral lands of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla, and many more beautiful tribes and original stewards of this region.

I am here walking my path as a wounded healer. I have survived and prospered despite many tragedies including losing my parents and sister as a child and I know what lies beneath the wound is the most beautiful rainbow light possible. I am here to excavate the suffering, integrate the wisdom of pain, and co-create healing with you. I affirm your agency and capacity as your own most divine healer. I believe in honoring the legacy of formal teachers I have learned from which you can see below. I honor the cultural history that imbues my work.

I have been studying astrology since 2015. I completed the Year One Program at the Portland School of Astrology in September 2021. I practice Western Tropical astrology and I use Whole Sign House system. I utilize intuitive, Modern and Hellenistic techniques to read astrology charts. I've been reading tarot and practicing brujería since I was a child.

I formally study critical theories, intersectional feminism, decolonial, anti-colonial theories in my Master’s of Social Work program. I’ve worked in mental health for 10+ years offering emotional counseling and support to the most marginalized communities in society. I have trained in the Strengths-Based Approach, Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing, Wellness Recovery Action Planning, and in Rape Crisis Counseling.

All these ways of relating are embodied in my consultations. I am a person who can hold down space for a variety of people. Ultimately, though I believe the mental health and social services industrial complexes are forms of incarceration I envision we one day completely destroy and replace with truly equitable healing for all.

Regarding Tarot, Reiki and Cultural Appropriation:

The origin of tarot is debated, however its enduring presence in our culture is due to the legacy of Romani people practicing tarot, often because historically and presently they have been barred from other employment. Laws have been made to prevent them from practicing their cultural divination practices legally. They have been enslaved, genocidally murdered, persecuted, stereotyped and oppressed for centuries.

Some people believe non-Romani people practicing tarot is cultural appropriation. Some people believe it can be practiced respectfully by non-Romani people. My mother and her mother practiced tarot, but we are not Romani. I am not Japanese, but I practice Reiki, a Japanese form of energy healing. Again, people dispute if this is cultural appropriation. There is a lot I can say about how it has been whitewashed and Westernized. How it was removed from its cultural and Buddhist roots to be more palatable for us here in the US. Honestly, I debate the ethics of me practicing it frequently.

I have also had many people tell me they benefited from Reiki and it feels good for me to give energetically. For now, I will continue to list Reiki as a paid offering on my website, but I am going to continually have this conversation with myself and others. I may decide at some point to stop practicing it completely or to remove it as a paid offering. We’ll see what happens.

I can also offer energy healing not based in the Reiki tradition or using any Reiki techniques. I have been energy healing much longer than I have been taught in Reiki. Email me if you are seeking this out.
